SHIGERU MIYAMOTO
CREATOR / DIRECTOR
He initially joined Nintendo as a toy designer but was soon tasked with creating graphics for arcade cabinets. In the 1980s, he simultaneously led the development of The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros., despite them being vastly different games. Zelda was inspired by his childhood explorations of the countryside and adventures into dark caves. After directing the original title, he transitioned into the role of series producer, establishing the general framework for each game and overseeing key design decisions.
TAKASHI TEZUKA
CO-DIRECTOR
Widely considered Miyamoto’s right-hand man, Tezuka has been a pivotal figure at Nintendo since joining in 1984. As the co-director of the first Zelda, he was responsible for expanding the game’s mythology and imagery. He is the mind behind iconic concepts such as the Triforce and the supernatural powers it represents.
He served as the main director for A Link to the Past and Link's Awakening. Since Ocarina of Time, he has acted as a supervisor for the series.
KOJI KONDO

KEIJI TERUI
WRITER
While Miyamoto and Tezuka laid the game's foundation, Terui was responsible for giving it a narrative backdrop. As an experienced anime screenwriter (Dragon Ball, Dr. Slump), he was hired by Nintendo to write the backstory for the original Zelda instruction manual. His task was to transform an abstract adventure into an epic myth, establishing the original lore of Hyrule, the shattering of the Triforce of Wisdom, and Link's quest to rescue Princess Zelda from Ganon’s clutches.
